Between late 1991 and about 1994, a large number of surcharges were applied to stamps of the Soviet Union and to some of the early post-communist Russian stamps. They are mostly private productions, cinderella in nature, although there were some authentic postal surcharges from a few states, such as Uzbekistan and Latvia. The items above fall in the cinderella category and are either surcharged with trains and/or surcharges on the Soviet 2k and 7k definitives, which both show a train.
